Dear Pisgah Church Family,

I am sure you know the children’s song

“I am the church. You are the church. We are the church together. All who follow Jesus,  all around the world. We are the church together. The church is not a building; the church is not a steeple; the church is not a resting place; the church is a people.”

Likewise, the scriptures remind us

And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. Colossians 3:14-15

I write to you in the midst of very strange circumstances as we all adjust to major life changes due to the current pandemic. Some of you may know someone who is sick, some of you may have lost your job, or others may be undertaking the task of home schooling your children. Like myself, you may have suddenly found yourself immersed in the world of virtual communications.

As you adjust to these and other changes, it is important for you to know that your church family wants to minister to you in as many ways as possible.  I can be reached through email at either pisgahlincolnton@gmail.com or sunderwood@wnccumc.net,  or by texting or calling my cell phone (704) 678-0813.

Ministry looks different right now but we are continuing to collect food for our local schools, for Christian ministry, through activity packets for our children, and through holding meetings and worship on a virtual platform.  Our drive in service last Sunday was wonderful simply because it was so good to see one another through our windshields.  I thank you for staying in your car thereby honoring social distancing.  Unfortunately, while we are under stay at home orders we will not be able to host another drive in service, but we will continue worshipping online at 10:30 Sunday mornings.

Our community Holy Week Services, including Easter Sunrise, have been cancelled for this year. I know this is hard news to accept but our greatest responsibility is to protect the most vulnerable among us while helping stop the spread of the cornavirus.  I am heartened to hear so many people express how much being in worship together means to them. When this is over we will certainly have a wonderful celebration!

In the meantime, let us remain connected as the body of Christ through telephone calls, cards and text messages.  Our phone tree, Facebook, website (pisgahumcnc.org), and email communications are other ways we can keep in touch.  I have tried to divide the church membership into shepherding groups, asking one person to check on five or six other families during this crisis. I still need volunteers to help with this task, so please let me know if you would like to be a shepherd.

I was deeply touched to receive the report from our counters on Sunday after they calculated the tithes and offerings. Pisgah folks are always faithful and you certainly made up for the Sundays that we could not be together. Thank you to those who gave on Sunday, or who mailed your offerings to the church address. To continue being connected to the financial mission of the church the Finance Committee offers a few suggestions:

  1. Mail your offering to the church at 2582 Gastonia Hwy, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
  2. For those who utilize online banking to pay their bills, you can simply set up the church as a payee. The bank will then send the church a paper check.
  3. Our Western North Carolina Conference has set up an online giving platform through which you can give to your local church. They are paying for the subscription to this service so the only cost we incur for this is a credit card fee of 3% per transaction. This fee is kept by the credit card company, the conference does not receive it.  When you are utilizing this service you will need to know that here in Lincolnton we are part of the Catawba Valley District. I will email you the link to this service. You may access the giving platform here, https://www.wnccumc.org/online-donations-to-churches, or click on the image above this letter.

Grace and peace to each of you. You are each an important part of our church family and it will be a great joy to be together again,

Pastor Sarah
